diatribes against science and knowledge

Is Science not itself another God?  Even as the goal of science--to disrobe and possess the mother goddess Truth--is considered unattainable by the scientist with a conscience, does this priest still not suffer from the conviction that the ritual of scientific methodology is the only path to salvation, a place in a heavenly domain where all is ruled by the laws--of Science itself?

Where the sledgehammer of science would reduce all to a rubble of facts, the finger of philosophy points to possibilities--lightly tracing intricate patterns over the delicate realm of existence.

The scientist lusts for Truth, believing her to exist. The philosopher longs for Meaning, knowing she is a dream.

Certainty is certainly the defining characteristic of the imbecile.

For an idiot, self-recognition is a sign of genius.

on existential issues

Life is not worth killing oneself over.

I admire: those who affirm life--even under the condition of reality.

There is nothing more amusing than to observe people engaging in delusions of faith in god and man.

"God is dead," said Nietzsche.  But unfortunately, the religious believe in an afterlife--they are still haunted by a holy ghost.

on beauty, love, and happiness

Beauty lies not in perfection, but in the effort to transcend imperfection.

The only true love is that which remains unrequited.

Happiness:  successful negotiation of the joys and sorrows of existence.

The supreme benefit of being a pessimist is that one is disappointed only when something wonderful happens.
